Top 5 Reasons Why Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is Good for Your Child

  • 1. Financial Assistance: The CDBS provides financial assistance for basic dental services up to a capped amount over a two-calendar-year period, helping families afford essential dental care for their children.
  • 2. Preventive Care: The schedule covers a range of preventive services such as examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, and fluoride treatments, which are crucial for maintaining good oral health and preventing dental issues.
  • 3. Restorative Treatments: Basic restorative treatments like fillings and extractions are covered under the CDBS, ensuring that children can receive timely treatment for dental problems to prevent further complications.
  • 4. Education and Awareness: Through the CDBS, families are encouraged to prioritize their children’s oral health by accessing dental services regularly. This promotes awareness about the importance of preventive dental care from an early age.
  • 5. Improved Oral Health: By providing access to essential dental services, the CDBS contributes to improving the oral health outcomes of eligible children, reducing the prevalence of dental problems and associated discomfort or pain. This, in turn, positively impacts their overall health and well-being.

FAQs About Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)

The CDBS is an Australian government initiative aimed at providing financial support for basic dental services to eligible children aged 2-17 years.

Children are eligible for the CDBS if they are aged between 2 and 17 years for at least 1 day of the calendar year, are eligible for Medicare, and are part of a family that receives certain government benefits such as Family Tax Benefit Part A.

The CDBS covers a range of basic dental services including examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, and extractions. However, orthodontic and cosmetic dental work are not covered.

Eligible children can receive up to $1,095 in benefits over a two-calendar-year period to cover the cost of basic dental services. Any unused funds within the two-year period will not be carried over.

You can check your child’s eligibility for the CDBS by contacting Medicare or accessing your Medicare online account through myGov. Alternatively, you can inquire with Glenvale Dental Group, who can assist you with the eligibility process.
